In the third section of my book The Space Between, a lot happened that was very unexpected. First off, Jace and Kate begin to get really close and kiss one night to say bye. Jace was expecting more from her (as in getting laid) but Kate just says "i had fun Jace i'll see you tomorrow." Jace was really confused about this and was starting to lose hope of ever reaching his goal. As it turns out, Kate was leading him on the whole time. Kate confesses to JAce that she has a boyfriend back home,and they've been dating for over a year. Jace gets really upset about this and begins to raise his voice, reminding him of when he found out about Cynthia (his ex girlfriend) and how she was cheating on him with some other guy.

Connor, the big hockey star who Jace is sometimes envious of because of his "abilities" with the women, began to tell Jace something as a confession. Jace was assuming that he was telling him he was an alcoholic, but Connor was really trying to tell Jace that he is gay. One night Connor slept in Jace's suite with him in the opposite bed, and Jace began to fall asleep.

Jace was having a dream that him and Kate were making out, when he woke up to Connor on top of him with no close on kissing him. Jace jumped up and began yelling and swearing at Connor. He then realized what Connor was trying to tell him. Connor also confessed that he thought Jace was gay, which is why he hung out with him so much. Jace was very insulted and began thinking "do other people think I'm gay?" which they did. His aunt Mara told Jace it's fine just don't tell his mom at that moment, and even Kate told him later that she thought he was gay too, which is another reason why she felt bad for kissing him.

If you had a good friend like how Connor was to Jace, would you feel betrayed knowing that your friendship was based on a hopeful future gay relationship? How would you react to a friend who confesses their true self, thinking that you feel the same way towards him?

Within the book "The Space Between" there are are a couple main characters who play a big part in the novel. First of all the main character Jace is a very diverse character. In the beginning of the novel Jace seemed to have only one thing on his mind, to lose his virginity. But as the book goes on you start to see how much is actually on his mind. Suffering from guilt because of his brother committing suicide, Jace becomes very emotional. He believes he could have stopped his brother Stefan from shooting himself if he talked to Stefan about his problems he was having. Jace being the middle child, sees his mom crying over his older brother Stefan, giving a lot of attention to his younger brother Lucas (due to his autism.) and Jace is left out. Jace describes himself as the space between the oldest and youngest child. From him saying that, It seems as though he carries some of the negative qualities Stefan possessed.

One of Jace's flaws is how he is very inconsiderate, unintentionally. An example is how both his parnets love his ex-girlfriend Cynthia, but Jace hasn't told them that they broke up. Another weakness of Jace's is how he is very judgmental towards people and jumps to conclusions. For example, One night Jace is going back to his room when he sees Connor coming out of his aunt Mara's room zipping his pants up. Jace being Jace, jumps to conclusions and punches Connor in the face. Later on Mara and Connor both explain how Connor passed out on her couch becuase he drank too much. It took Connor a long time to explain him self because Jace assumes a lot of things, and doesn't give Connor a chance to explain himself.

Blog Number One

The Space Between, written by Don Aker, is a different kind of adventure book. Steering away from the average life changing journey that usually takes place in adventure novels, this book is about the main character Jace wanting to lose his virginity. Jace is turning 18 in a couple of days, and is planning on reaching his "goal" in Mexico as he, his autistic brother Lucas, his rich aunt Mara and his mom are on vacation. Jace is worried that his family will cause distractions toward achieving his goal. Along with his family being present, Jace also has other problems with the hockey star Connor MacPherson attending the same flight and place as Jace. Jace believes that Connor will ruin most of his chances of reaching his goal, and along with that he finds Connor to be really annoying and rowdy.

As Jace lays on the beach trying to play it "cool" in front of Kate Townsend (the blond girl he notices) Connor MacPhearson comes over with his rowdy friends and completely blows his chances. Kate walks away in disgust. Later on in the book Jace and Connor eventually end up talking and Jace realizes they have a lot in common and a friendship is established. Jace and Connor were sitting on his balcony drinking alcoholic beverages, looking down at the beach trying to scope out girls for Jace (because he told Connor about his "goal")Connor, under the influence, sees Kate and not knowing about Jace's crush towards her yells down "hey babe, wana come up here?" Kate sees them both and responds "sorry I don't hang out with assholes." Jace is astounded and instantly loses respect for Connor.

If you were in Jace's position, what would you do to show Kate that you're not like Connor? How could you get Kate to see that you're not an "asshole?"
